Welcome to our weekly column offering perspectives on lit mag publishing, with contributions from readers, writers and editors around the world.


I think some of you know I run a lit mag submission service, and since part of my job is to work on—which is to say, less euphemistically, “to fix”—formatting issues with the stories and essays I receive, you might say I’m writing this post for one reason only: to help writers get these things right before I receive their work. It would save me some time. But the following will also help writers who submit on their own.
