Here it is! The very first of a new series of interviews with journal editors.
I was so delighted to speak with Lynn Domina, Editor of The Other Journal. She was absolutely lovely, and it was great to learn about her magazine.
(Full disclosure: Not only was this my first live editor interview, but it was my first time ever hosting anything thing on Zoom. I know, I know, I’m really behind the times. Nonetheless, I think it went really well. If you’re one of those tech-friendly people who have suggestions, though, feel free to drop me a line and let me know if I need better lighting or clearer audio or to smile more or smile less or if you were very bothered by the towel hanging from the door behind me.)
Anyway, The Other Journal is unique in that they actively work with their writers through editorial stages, they have a whole team of editors to work on various sections, and they deal with writing that looks at various approaches to faith and theology. Also, they are actively seeking submissions for a theme on Reimagination. Lynn offers great insights here, and a way to contact her if you watch this video and then feel like your work would be a good fit for them.
Huge thanks to Lynn for taking time to speak with me, and to all who attended.
Becky, I loved this interview with Lynn Domina. Very genuine responses, following good questions. It all really helped me to get a better idea of the type of writing The Other Journal likes to print—a type of writing fairly difficult to describe, by the way. i.e. Christian writing, but not academic, and not straightforwardly theological, it seems to me. So thank you again, and congratulations on your first interview in this series! From Carole M.
Excellent interview. You should do that with every editor of a small press to give writers hope. To personalize the whole experience. Sending manuscripts to faceless Others can be daunting. You gave it a face and personality. Loved it.
