Ahoy, friends! I bring you something different today: a webinar, newly wrapped!

This is the first webinar I’ve ever hosted through Lit Mag News. Bethany Jarmul is a poet and nonfiction writer who published two pieces on this site: Launch Your Writing Career with the Snowball Strategy and How I Got an Acceptance From My “Dream Journal”...and You Can Too. I found her approach to submissions so interesting, so refreshingly practical and actionable that I simply wanted her to come talk to us. She did, and her presentation was outstanding.

First, a bit about Bethany:

Bethany Jarmul is an Appalachian writer and poet. Her work has been published in 100+ literary magazines including Rattle, Brevity, Salamander, One Art, and Ghost Parachute. She’s the author of two chapbooks and one poetry collection—This Strange and Wonderful Existence (poetry chapbook, Bottlecap Press, 2023), Take Me Home (nonfiction chapbook, Belle Point Press, 2024), and Lightning is a Mother (poetry collection, ELJ Editions, 2025). Her writing was selected for Best Spiritual Literature 2023 and Best Small Fictions 2024, and nominated for the Pushcart Prize, The Best of the Net, Best Microfiction, and Wigleaf Top 50.

In this webinar Bethany discusses her approach to mindset, goal-setting and targeting journals with patience and persistence. She breaks down eight submissions strategies, discusses the unique pros and cons of each, and helps guide writers who are just starting to submit their work as well as writers further along hoping to break into more competitive magazines.

I tell you, one of the main reasons I created Lit Mag News is that so often this kind of information is hard to come by. Editorial processes are murky and rarely is any sort of feedback given on the pieces we send out. It is quite easy to feel discouraged, uncertain, alone. So often you just don’t know if you’re going about this dang writing thing in a way that’s right.

Bethany’s approach to submitting allows writers to define for themselves clear and measurable goals, big and small. It allows writers to name what success means to them, and to create the strategies that will make such success reality.

I feel like I sound like a TV commercial. But really! Go watch her webinar. You will learn so much. If you’ve been struggling with rejections, if you want to dream bigger, if you need help with goal-setting, if you have a vision but don’t know how to put it into action, if you just want to enjoy a laugh or two with fellow travelers, tune in.

You won’t be disappointed.
