Hi everyone!
Yesterday a reader reached out to me, cautiously, with some “unsolicited advice.”
As it turns out, I often love unsolicited advice. (Unless it’s from my mother, which it usually is.)
In this case, it turned out to be the exact right suggestion for the exact right moment. You see, beginning this fall, I will no longer run the Lit Mag Reading Club. As I shut that program down, I’ve been looking for ways to fill the enormous vacuum created by its absence.
(That’s a joke. I suspect most of you would not even know that it stopped running!)
(Though a few of you might. And to those who participated, thank you so much. It was a lot of fun, and our Reading Club truly had a great run!)
Anyway, this reader suggested I broaden the scope of Lit Mag News to include the larger literary world. This includes what’s going on with publishing house mergers, AI-related lawsuits, open letters, boycotts, exciting new imprints, small presses in the spotlight, trends, controversies, views and perspectives.
I thought this to be a wonderful idea. In fact I spent all of yesterday scouring the internet for lit-world news, and had to practically sit on my hands to keep myself from sending out a newsletter right then and there. There is so much to discuss!
And I will, in a new feature to this site: Beyond Lit Mags.
Like the lit-mag-related newsletter that goes out on alternate Mondays, “Beyond Lit Mags” will be a bi-weekly newsletter that goes out on alternate weeks.
The “literary world” is a vast space. I will not be able to cover every part of it. But I will do my best to cover what I think will be most helpful, interesting, thought-provoking and relevant to you, my dear wonderful readers who’ve been with me through so many great years already!
You can learn more about it here:
Also like my regular newsletter, you can expect information, insights, humor, and—as always—mega-community right here in this space.
I also plan to add to my roster of interviewees, in order to feature publishers, writers, literary agents and more. Of course, I will still keep up with lit mag editors, as always!
So, no action is required of you at this moment. I’m just very excited and wanted to share.
The Beyond Lit Mags newsletter will officially launch in August.
That’s all!
Have a wonderful day.
I’ll leave you with a funny:

Please keep doing whatever works for you in the exact way it works for you. And at the exact pace that works for you. Because it all starts with you. And it ends up in front of us. And it’s useful consistently. This sounds exciting. Just remember us little people every now and then when you become a major Influencer.
It sounds like a great idea. I hope it’s not all too overwhelming.
