Q: How do we spot scammy lit mags & presses (part 3)?
“A nominal fee.”
Welcome to our weekend conversation!
This is the third installment of what is becoming a series of posts on spotting scammy lit mags and presses. To tell you the truth, I had not intended this to be a series at all! What I’ve found over the past few weeks is that there is so much to say on this topic and there is a great deal more scamming going on than I realized.
The first post focused on the letters some presses and journals send writers. Last week we looked at transparency and how editors communicate with writers. This week we will look at how lit mags bury details within their sites and how many take advantage of Submittable’s Discover feature. The fourth installment—yes, another one!—will cover aspects of lit mags’ sites that make them questionable.
