"The Sentence is Something Special." Q & A With Christopher Allen, Editor of SmokeLong Quarterly
a chat with Christopher Allen, Editor of Smokelong
Dear ones,
Today was another delightful interview with another wonderful journal editor. Christopher Allen joined us from Munich, Germany, to talk about his magazine, SmokeLong Quarterly. SmokeLong has been around since 2003, and is one of the premier flash fiction magazines.
I spoke to Christopher about what the magazine’s editorial process is like and how they decide on submissions to publish. But what I really wanted to pick his brain about was what makes a great piece of flash fiction.
Christopher shared some really useful and interesting insights about the form. He also let us know about the UK Flash Fiction Festival, as well as several flash-fiction writing workshops that he teaches.
The magazine is open year-round for submissions. They are committed to reading for free and to paying writers. They also have an incredibly fast turn-around time, of less than one week!
Thank you to Christopher, and to all who came out to attend this conversation. I hope you all enjoy!
Great interview. Thanks!
Terrific interview, Becky!
