Lit Mag Reading Club Chat: CLEAVER #38
A conversation with Editor Karen Rile & contributors to Cleaver
“Quirky,” “nurturing,” “for emerging writers,” “elegant,” “community,” “so funny.”
These are just some of the descriptors that came up today in my conversation with Karen Rile, Founding Editor of Cleaver. “Cleaver is a Philadelphia-based online magazine that provides a platform for writers and artists producing work of the highest quality.”
Today, members of the Lit Mag Reading Club gathered specifically to discuss issue #38. We were joined in the conversation by several contributors to the magazine, so we not only got to hear from Karen about how she puts issues together (and how she has been putting issues together for the past ten years), but also from contributors about what it was like to work with Cleaver’s editors.
One commonality that every contributor to this issue shared is that they all did their homework before submitting to the magazine. Whether it was having a sense of who the types of contributors were or looking for a place specifically for humor, they put the time in to get to know this magazine.
And now, you can too!
It’s never too late to join the Lit Mag Reading Club. Once you do, you will be able to access the online discussion about Cleaver as well as the video below, as well as all future events.
Cleaver is open for submissions year-round. They publish fiction, flash fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, book reviews, visual art, and graphic narratives.
Happy reading and viewing!
