Terrific! You can become the Oprah of Lit Mags!!! Seriously, I am game for this. Shocking and terrible truth: I cannot keep up with my lit mag reading. Some are months old and sitting around unread. It would be more fun to read with others.
Same. Impossible to keep up! I subscribe to Kenyon, The Common, Paris Review, Astra, The NYer, Northwest. I'm about to cancel my NYer subscriptions cause I can't keep up.
Looking forward to this. One of my crit groups talked about doing something similar, on our very small scale, but none of us could find the time to organize it. I love the idea of participating without having to do the work!
Wonderful idea! Would the participating magazines be willing to offer a single-issue subscription to Becky's subscribers? I'd like to support lit mags, but I subscribe to so many already that I don't have the reading time or funds to add two more each month.
Thanks, Debra. Many of the magazines will indeed be offering discounts on issues and/or subscriptions. Also, many of the magazines have a lot of content online. So if you're unable to read the print issue of a particular issue, you can absolutely still participate by reading what you can online.
I'm so excited! I just started a lit mag of my own this past month and have been working hard to get to know the online lit mag space better. This will be a great opportunity to see what other magazines are like and maybe even get some ideas for my own publication!
I'm new to this "business" and business of writing, and so overwhelmed just trying to understand what to read, and where I might try to get something published. This is fantastic. Do we need to do anything more than be a paid subscriber? (Which I already am :) )
Wonderful, Marjie, glad to have you. The only thing you'll have to do going forward is keep your eye out for emails announcing the days and times for events, then be sure to register! See you soon!
Really looking forward to this! Like so many others, I struggle to keep up with all my lit mag subscriptions. I get Poetry, APR, Ploughshares, Indiana Review, Missouri Review, and a bunch of others. I feel so guilty when new issues arrive and a previous one is still sitting unread. I'm grateful for this opportunity to read more lit mags in an organized way & discuss them with others. Thank you!
The Lit Mag Craft Club gets better and Better! Thrilling that we'll get a free digital subscription and watch the interview with Derek from The Sun. Brava!
We (The Apostrophe) would love to be a participating publication! That would probably involve actually publishing our first issue, to be fair. (The good news is that it will be out on June 1.)
Quick question about the anticipated times for the Zoom sessions (for those who want to participate live and not simply view afterwards). I live in Amsterdam (Netherlands) -- 6 hours later than the east coast of the U.S. -- so will totally understand if it's not possible to have Zoom sessions that accommodate European participants.
I love this idea! As I'm in Amsterdam, it will be difficult to get my hands on print copies, but paying for online access to single issues, or discussing pieces that are available freely online will make it possible for me to participate fully.

This is my exact scenario!
Becky’s “Field of Dreams” for reading lit magazines. If she builds it...

If possible, Blackbird would be interested in participating. (blackbird.vcu.edu). Best, Mary Flinn, founding editor, blackbird@vcu.edu

Sound like fun.

What a fabulous idea—looking forward to it!

Great question, Kimmen. Our interviews generally happen midday EST. So that would be evening your time & should be do-able!

Calendared! Looking forward to it.
