Truth From Hal Niedzviecki. I am learning late in career about how writing - and poetry in particular - is becoming a field of elitists and victims. Too bad for Broken Pencil.
Another publication for me to boycott. Like Poetry magazine, which drove out Don Share over a bullshit tweet from a self-styled "budding poet" with, at the time, 141 followers. Purity Karens. And, as Orwell would have recognized, "objectively" fascist.
Agreed! I’m weary of the whining victims and the woke activists trying to destroy art and free speech. Those that say “art is political” have a very shallow view of the deep human experience. And anyone who cancels someone for their personal beliefs is a weak bully who lacks the courage and integrity to create something of their own.
Only the magazine can tell you for them but for me CNF is like non-fiction in a story format. It has a creative writing component to it, in the way its crafted, how its told etc. An essay can be on someone's personal experience but is usually topical. I think they overlap like a venn diagram.
I was so sad to see Passengers close. I loved the audio they produced to go along with the writing. I felt very lucky to place a piece with them earlier this year and listening to an actor read my story was amazing. The team put together such beautiful issues. I loved to read them.
I have 2 Buellers for investigation: Haymaker Literary Journal and Pilgrimage Press. Does anyone have any insight beyond what their websites provide/don't provide?
Thanks so much for highlighting Blueline. I just had a story accepted there, because they advertised in Poets & Writers. I didn't know much about them but now I'm so proud to see their long and distinguished history!
The grinder is listing Hoax as permanently closed, but their website seems running and I can't find any note on it. Does anyone know what happened or if thats an error?
I have no information about New York Quarterly, but I have a submission that’s been stuck in the “Received” status at Chicago Quarterly Review for seven months now and I’m starting to wonder if that publication has died.
Ecotone is holding one from February from me but since they've been consistent in getting back to me by a year I haven't counted them out; I just assume they will hold it as long as poet lore, rattle or the fiddlehead will.
I have an Ecotone submission that is 294 days old. On Duotrope, the most recent response recorded was Nov 11-2024. And responses have been received for submissions up to Feb 6-2024. Maybe send them a query about your submission?

Please don't malign the name Karen. I have friends with that name who find it hurtful.
LOL. For a minute there, I thought you weren’t joking.
I am serious. It's unkind.
Excellent!

What is the difference between CNF and essay. I just submitted to a magazine that had both categories.

Nifty Lit published their last issue this month. I was lucky enough to have two pieces accepted for their last issue.
Becky, please add Diet Milk Magazine to the list of dead and gone.
Since Ligeia Magazine never ever replied to my submissions, I considered it dead a few years ago.

Ecotone has had some of my work "in progress" for over a year. The publication seems very active, though, and continues to have open reading periods.

Ecotone also has had my submission for over a year. They currently hold the record for my oldest sub. I will cling to hope though.
Thanks, maybe I will.
I thought DNQ on Duotrope stood for “Does not qualify”?
Ah, you are correct, Barb. I've just made that correction. Thank you!
Does not qualify so do not query! :)
I think so.
